How to calculate r squared?

In statistics, the coefficient of determination denoted r2 or R2 and pronounced "R-squared", is the proportion of the variance in the dependent variable that is predictable from the independent variable. The R2 explains the strength of the relationship between an independent and dependent variable, R2 explains to what extent the variance of one variable explains the variance of the second variable.

So, you have two datasets that can be a dependent variable and an independent variable or observed variable and predicted variable or observed variable and modeled variable or .....
